Gucci 2009 Collection Is Fierce, Baby!

//

Holy Gucci 2009! The entire collection is 100% fierce with a capital F! Frida Giannini and the entire Gucci team have recently revealed the Gucci Resort 2009 collection and there is nothing else you can say except that all the pieces are marvelous and definitely trend setting! The 70’s inspired collection had mostly white, caramel, burnt orange, chocolate brown and blue hues. Bellisimo! (I seriously screamed with glee when I saw the collection!)

The collection had two themes: a hippie/gypsy-esque theme plus a nautical theme. Even if you’re not hitting the seas anytime soon, you will definitely not hesitate to don these winning outfits.

You have the choice of either striped or flared pants. For true blue hippies or hippie wannabes, on the other hand, you can choose among the pretty gypsy prints and flowing, feminine maxi dresses (which, by the way, are really popular these days).

Lovin’ the leather jackets, tunics, suits, and mini dresses in this collection as well! Just imagine wearing one of the outfits in the white pants collection. Undoubtedly, you will exude power, confidence and style like no other.

You gals now have ideas on what to ask from your significant others for presents! On the other hand, you can treat yourself with a few pieces of this oohlala magnifico collection. You deserve it!

We want to wear every single one of these outfits off the runway and straight to a yacht that’s going cruising through a brilliant blue Mediterranean sea. We want to go to a club and party with the most glamorous people in the world in these clothes. To put it simply, Gucci hit a home run with their 2009 cruise collection.

It was very 70′s inspired. There were short mini mod dresses and long flowing hippie peasant blouses and skirts. We saw a ton of orange and loud prints come down the runway, and we loved it! Halloween colors seem to be a big trend this season.

To see what we’re talking about, browse through the gallery and check out the pictures. Everything is adorable and fun. Now if only we were all millionaires and able to afford a whole new wardrobe from Gucci!

Happy 70th Birthday Gucci

This year marks the seventieth anniversary of the much-loved House of Gucci, and the exuberant celebrations kicked off with Gucci’s Resort show on July 8th. Unlike most of the other Resort collections which were shown in New York, Creative Director, Frida Giannini, chose to premiere the collection in Rome with a gorgeous show and a very glamorous after party to fete the Italian luxury brand.

Ms. Giannini even gave a small gift to fans and lovers of the label who could not make it to Rome for the show; she streamed the show live over the Internet. Although runway shows become almost instantly available on sites such as Youtube, and very often on the sites of designers themselves, no other designer has quite literally invited the whole world to participate in a show in such a way. The end of exclusivity? Perhaps not, but certainly a step in a more egalitarian direction. If you missed the live video, check out the gucci site for a look at the show and glamorous after party.

The celebration continues at the Gucci flagship store in Rome in the Via Condotti. The store itself has been given a full face lift and features all Gucci products from mens and womens wear to accessories and a separate jewelry boutique. Exclusive items have also been commissioned for the legendary store including a beautiful printed bag with a ‘1950’s Postcard’ scene of Rome (pictured above) as well as dazzling new jewelry inspired by the iconic Gucci horse bit. But if you can’t make it to Rome anytime soon to celebrate the brand yourself, you can always just spritz a bit of your favorite Gucci scent and be instantly transported to the magical peninsula.

Gucci Fall 2008 Handbags

Fashion designer and founder of the Gucci firm, Guccio Gucci, was born in Florence, Italy. He opened his first shop in Florence in 1920, becoming known for his leather craftsmanship and accessories. His four sons joined the firm, and in 1953 (the year he died) the first overseas shop opened in New York City. Gucci’s grandson, Maurizio oversaw the resurrection of the firm in the 1980s, and became group president in 1989.

Beginning in 1990, American designer Tom Ford transformed the dormant Italian luxury brand into a billion-dollar empire of interlocking Gs. Along with Gucci’s CEO Domenico De Sole, Ford effected an astonishingly successful turnaround in a relatively short time.

The breakout collection for Tom Ford was fall 1995, where his brightly colored fitted coats over satin shirts (unbuttoned to show cleavage) and hip-hugger pants pretty much changed the way fashion looked overnight and established Ford as an international tastemaker – a role the good-looking former actor embraced enthusiastically.

Gucci became the preferred wardrobe for international high-powered women and men who believe that sex appeal is an important part of social interaction. But following a series of legal and family disputes, the company was sold to the multinational Investcorp in 1993.

In 1999, the fashion world was riveted and entertained by the business battle that erupted when French luxury group LVMH tried to acquire Gucci. Tom Ford feared that its CEO, Bernard Arnault, would diminish the creative and financial autonomy he and De Sole required.

With Ford’s blessing, rival PPR triumphed, created the Gucci Group, and acquired Yves Saint Laurent, Stella McCartney, and Alexander McQueen. But as Ford’s contract ended, he and De Sole battled with PPR’s executives, and both left in April 2004.

Replacing Ford wasn’t easy. Alessandra Fachinetti, the first successor, quit after two seasons and was replaced by another in-house designer, Frida Ginanni, whose collections are selling well, but have yet to receive Ford-level raves.

Gucci 8-8-2008 Special Edition

For this year, Gucciannounced a special limited 8-8-2008 collection of just 8 fashion accessories that will be available exclusively through Gucci Hong Kong and China stores. The special edition pays homage to competitive sports and is supposed to epitomize sporty luxury, according to Gucci creative director Frida Giannini. Cornerstone of the campaign is the new I-Gucci watch, which is unique to the 8-8-08 campaign in both coloring and sporty appearance. It also happens to be the first digital time piece Gucci has ever released – its digital face is capable of displaying both numerical and clock-hand formats. Other specs include a 44 millimeter steel frame casing, a red monochrome rubber strap (embossed with Gucci’s iconic GG pattern on its inside) and selection of multiple time zones. The 8-8-2008 collection also features an unlikely accessory in form of a bicycle. The bike is built for leisure and sports bold red double GG leather details such as the seat and the handle bar grips. On a personal note: Being somewhat of a bike fetishist myself, I feel like the Holland-style bike defies the whole concept of the campaign. If the collection is conveying a sporty spirit, why not collaborate with a real competitive race bike maker such as Specialized and give Gucci lovers a real sport toy for their money’s worth? I suppose my perception of “sports” are quite a bit different than the creative department at Gucci envisions. Judging their frail Chinese campaign model, his stature and lack of sporty appearance, entirely justifies my criticism of the nature of the campaign. In my humble opinion, this collection’s ties to competitive sports should have been dropped for the sake of real athletes around the globe. Moving on from an athlete’s rant, the limited collection also features two pieces of luggage in the bold red “La Pelle Guccissima”. The first is a study leather duffel bag and the other a soft-leather messenger bag with Gucci’s Green-Red-Green web on its shoulder strap. You can view the full limited edition here, while this page offers an exclusive video, giving insights into the shooting and creation of the campaign pictures. As mentioned, most items will only be available through Gucci boutiques in HK and China, the I-Gucci watch will be available globally.
